March - April 2026 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
A two week volunteering trip (March 28 - April 12) to the Northern part of Thailand, in the area around Chiang Mai. Week one we spend 3 days at Makkawan Agroforestry farm, learning hands-on about agroforestry and sustainable agriculture. A pilot project that follows the teachings of the King Bhumibol Adulaydej, where a monoculture is transformed into a rich and equilibrated ecosystem. The second part of the week will work at an elephant sanctuary that hosts around 100 injured elephants, Elephant Nature Park. Our tasks include minor building projects, pick and prepare food for the elephants, planting projects as well as helping out with the daily chores in the park. We have of course many opprtumities to enjoy and see the elephants.
The second week we are off working and trekking in a remote Hill Tribe village helping the villagers with a couple of projects they have askeded support for: road drainage an rice fields irrigation projects.
In addition we have a few days in Chiang Mai to visit some of the most beautiful buddhist temples and participate in a cooking class where we cook and eat delicious food. This is a trip where you make a difference by supporting the elephants, the local community as well as the environment. All three are indeed connected.
