May 2026 - Puglia and Basilicata

A one week of total immersion in the Italian language spent partly in Puglia and partly in nearby Basilicata. For the first part of the trip we were based in Massafra exploring the Puglia from the Greek period by visiting the archeological museum of Bari. We went on discovering some beautiful masserias spread out in the countryside which are an architectural marvel and several beautiful mysterious rock churches with precious frescoes. In Basilicata, starting in Matera and continuing in Aliano we walked on Carlo Levi's footh steps, "Christ stopped at Eboli" being our reference book. In Aliano we experiences the atmosphere and the landscape which are so well described in Levi's book. A full day discovering the Piccole Dolomiti Lucane walking on an old mule track was a chance to see a rather secluded part of the world. As promised, Italian food and wine kept us good company. Warm and welcoming people, proud to show and share their territory, made every day a special day.

September 2026 - Brenta Dolomites with trekking, music, Italian and a stopover in Rovereto.

One week trekking in the beautiful Brenta Dolomites. Our base was Madonna di Campiglio, surrounded by the Dolomiti di Brenta and the Adamello Presanella mountains. Four days of trekking amidst rocks, pastures and grazing cows. We listened to a concert high up in the mountains, as part of I Suoni delle Dolomiti musical program after spending one night in a Rifugio. Madonna di Campiglio unveiled it's history coupled to the Autrian Hungarian Empire, where the Empress Sissi and her husband the Emperor Franz Joseph I left their foot steps and legacy. A rainy day allowed us to visit some beautiful frescoed churches in the area and we had the chance to have a passionate young volunteer opening a WWI museum just for us! We finished our week by discovering Rovereto, a guided tour rendered the streets and the buildings alive and an afternoon in one of the several interesting museums of the town was a relaxing activity after the trekking days. Rovereto is a quiet town, with fine squares where we enjoyed our last dinners on summer like evenings.

December 2026 - January 2027 - Napoli, Italy

A one week New Year's trip to Napoli (December 28-January 4) in collaboration with Luca Cesarini. A trip that includes among other things visits of the island of Capri with Axel Munthe's house, Napoli's catacombs and Fontanelle's cemetery which both tell a very special story of Napoli once upon a time. A visit of the ancient Roman Pompei settlement is a must and is included in the program. Pasta, mozzarella and wine production will be part of our tour. We have a one hour Italian class every day and we will be treated with local cuisine lunch and dinner. New year will be celebrated in a very special way, ask for the program of the trip to unveil the surprise.
