June 2017 - Nusa Penida, Indonesia

The trip has gone very well and we have accomplished a great deal of work. Our tasks have gone from

1. contributing to the building of the gamelan hall, a project which we do in collaboration with Singapore and Indonesian volunteers as well as several locals who took the tricky parts such as laying tiles and building the roof. The hall is not finished yet, but it is progressing well and I will follow the work via picture reportage from the island. The hall will be a rehearsal/performance stage for a local gamelan orchestra. The gamelan music being a very important part of the Balinese culture and religion we want to give the best opportunity to the village children to maintain their traditions by being able to continue practice the gamelan music in the best conditions.

2. building a couple of trash brick/cement bins, the aim being to educate the people to first put all their trash in a common container and later continuing with a plastic recycling mission.

3. planting of 500 cashew nut and 450 coconut trees. The fruits will be for the villagers to harvest, consume and make a profit off.

4. to creating a couple of gardens with planting beds with the aim of promoting new cultures on the island such as pineapple and grapes for ex.
