January 2016 - Nusa Penida, Indonesia
Nusa Penida , known as the the black magic island was also the home of political prisoners in the 18th century. Today it is an untouched natural paradise and an unofficial bird sanctuary where several birds, such as the Bali starling which is on the verge of extinction, are being protected. The local communities live on the threshold of poverty and their economy is almost only reliant on seaweed harvest. Nusa Penida is slowly developing as a self sustainable community thanks the strong will of the villagers and the help of several volunteering projects as for ex. the Green Volunteers of Singapore. Several conservation projects aim towards restoring the natural habitat and nurturing the local people through sustainable projects such as developing their own coconut oil production. An important planting project has successfully seen the planting of 18000 trees a season since 2009. The Green Volunteers are building a bird sanctuary on private land to protect the birds from poaching. Protection and abundance of food will hopefully see the bird population increase.
During my stay in Nusa Penida the bird sanctuary as well as the virgin coconut oil manufactury have been officially inaugurated. Coconut, cherry and morinda tress planted and jackfruit and palm seeds seeded... We have many plans for the future to help and support the local communities. More volunteering opportunities to come.

June 2016 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
Three week volunteering with 13 students of the International school of the Gothenburg Region (IHGR). We worked hard and cemented around 250 m of the road leading to the village of Mae Kong Sai, north of Chiang Mai. We have also been planting around 2000 trees as part of a reforestation project in Baan Lao where today there are the first three elephants which moved from the Elephant Nature Park. We finished with a few days at the Elephant Nature Park building a fence and helping out with the food and the shelters of the elephants. Excellent trip with a hard working group of students. See the videos taken by the students during the trip.
